Things to do in Tampa Bay, Clearwater, Tampa Bay Area

Clearwater and its neighboring cities in the Tampa Bay area are celebrated for their vibrant and inclusive LGBTQ+ communities, offering a welcoming atmosphere for travelers seeking diverse experiences.

LGBTQ+ friendly neighborhoods

In St. Petersburg, the Grand Central District stands out as a lively hub for the LGBTQ+ community. This area, stretching along Central Avenue between 16th and 31st streets, is lined with boutiques, antique shops, restaurants, and bars, many of which are LGBTQ+-owned. The district is also the heart of St. Pete Pride, Florida’s largest LGBTQ+ Pride event, featuring a vibrant parade and a month-long festival with concerts, art exhibits, and more.

Adjacent to the Grand Central District is Historic Kenwood, known for its charming bungalows and artistic vibe. This neighborhood hosts various LGBTQ+ events and is home to several inclusive establishments.

The waterfront town of Gulfport is another gem, boasting a population where approximately 50% identify as LGBTQ+. Known for its eclectic arts scene, Gulfport offers galleries, beach volleyball, and waterfront dining with views of Boca Ciega Bay.

Just north of Clearwater, Dunedin is celebrated for its LGBTQ+ inclusivity. This small town is renowned for its craft beer scene, excellent restaurants, and hosts the Toronto Blue Jays’ spring training at TD Ballpark.

Beaches and outdoor activities

While all beaches in the area are welcoming, Sunset Beach on the southern tip of Treasure Island has been a favored spot for the LGBTQ+ community for decades. It offers amenities like restrooms, parking, and nearby food and drink options.

Nightlife and entertainment

The region boasts a vibrant LGBTQ+ nightlife. In St. Petersburg, popular spots include Enigma, COCKtail, The Wet Spot, and The Garage. Dunedin’s Blur offers lively entertainment, while Quench Lounge in Largo is also a favorite among locals.

Events and Festivals

The highlight of the year is St. Pete Pride, a multi-day festival in June that stands as Florida’s largest Pride celebration. The event features a vibrant parade, street parties, family-friendly activities, and more.

Both Gulfport Pride and Dunedin Pride also take place in June, offering additional opportunities to celebrate diversity and inclusion.
