“Jeff Shell, NBCUniversal CEO, said: “Epic Universe is full steam ahead. I was down there a few weeks ago, construction is going well and we expect the park to open in 2025 and certainly in time for the summer of 2025.”
Epic Universe, Universal Orlando‘s third and largest theme park, will “certainly” open in the summer of 2025, according to NBCUniversal chairman Jeff Shell, who said this Thursday, January 27th at Comcast’s earnings call that the project is now “full steam ahead” and “construction is going really well.” The project was put on hold during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. In March 2021, Comcast announced that work on Epic Universe had resumed, this is the first official confirmation since the original 2023 launch date was a thing of the past.
Rumor has it
Orlando’s version of Super Nintendo World™ is the only confirmed part of Epic Universe. Universal reportedly has plans to expand the park and there is a lot of speculation that they will include both Classic Monsters Land and another Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ section. Attractions based on DreamWorks movies, presumably “Secret Life of Pets” and “How to Train Your Dragon” have also recently been rumored to be in the works. Given the possible closure of Shrek 4D at Universal Studios and rumors of a Minions attraction taking over the space, we know Universal Orlando™ wants to bring more DreamWorks into Epic Universe.
Nothing has been confirmed by Universal Orlando™, but there are some announcements and expectations for Epic Universe when it opens in a few years.
A new Universal Way to Epic Universe
The park is being built on a 750-acre site near the Orange County Convention Center. Universal Epic Universe, which will be the size of Universal Orlando™ and Universal’s Islands of Adventure™ combined, will be located on the south side of Universal Orlando™.
Universal Orlando™, will work with the County to build a new road connecting the new resort area to the existing roads. Kirkman Road will extend from Universal Orlando’s current site to the new area. The extension of Kirkman Road will provide additional lanes for residents and visitors, reduce traffic on Universal Blvd and I-Drive, and provide bus lanes down the center. This will allow Universal to more easily shuttle guests between the new park and the existing resort.
A new road named Universal Way will connect Kirkman Road to Destination Parkway. Universal Way will be the main route to the Epic Universe’s parking lot, as well as guest drop off and pick up areas.
