Leave the Driving to Someone Else: Getting Around Orlando Using Ride-Shares

News
Orlando welcomes visitors from all over the world. Many of these guests arrive by plane, leaving them in a pinch for transportation once they land in the Sunshine State. Thankfully, Orlando has an excellent transportation system for visitors, including several rideshare options. Here are some tips when using Uber and Lyft in the area:

Download the apps before you arrive

Be prepared and download both the apps before you arrive in Orlando. Both the Uber and Lyft app are available on Android and iPhone and are free to download. Once you have them downloaded, you can create an account to store your payment information. This makes getting a ride even quicker since you don’t have to add payment info in each time, the app automatically pulls from that saved account.

Note: Tipping is not expected with either Uber or Lyft, but if you have a particularly good ride, you can tip them in the app.

Take advantage of the referral bonus

If you’re traveling with another adult or multiple adults, sign up for the app one at a time. After one of you signs up for the app, pass along the referral bonus code to the next adult and so forth and so on. The bonus gives you a free ride or a certain percentage off your first ride.

Compare prices

Uber and Lyft have nearly identical coverage in the city. The choice between the two often comes down to personal preference or price. If you don’t have a preference, each time you need a ride, check the prices between the two and choose the cheapest. You can also choose based on how soon the ride can pick you up and if they have the type of vehicle you need. Both companies have several types and sizes of vehicles to choose from when you book a ride.

Leave your maps at home

It’s okay if you don’t know the area — your Uber or Lyft driver does! When you request a ride, enter the address of where you want to go and your driver gets you there. You don’t have to navigate the roads yourself or provide the taxi driver with a possibly confusing address.
